Artist Statement:

Memories of New Orleans

Cyanotype Prints (on archival unbuffered cotton paper)

What is the first thing that comes to mind for you where you hear "New Orleans"? Grilling with the family on the parade route while waiting for Zulu to pass by on Mardi Gras morning? Live music in the streets and/or in the many clubs? A well laden plate of deliciously good food? Revelry on Bourbon Street? Perhaps the sound of tambourines on St. Joseph's night?

The name tends to evoke a number of different things for different people, even for those who have never been (as once was the case for me upon a time). For some folks what it evokes might be home or even the absence of home, and the people who made or make it so.

These photographs are glimpses into some of these parts of New Orleans, pulled from visits over a period of 12 years or thereabouts. I hope they evoke something familiar about this beautiful city and its people, and perhaps even something unfamiliar that makes us treasure it more and want to do what we can to preserve its unique culture and help the people who bear that culture, continue to do so.
