A Peek at The Stations of the Cross
Just a bit of a peek at the 2010 Stations of the Cross installation at the Xnihilo Gallery. The photographs below are partials of those stations, in part because photos don't really do any of the pieces justice. I'd recommend that you find some time to stop by the gallery to properly experience the entire exhibit (on display February 17 through April 26, 2010) and to read what each artist has written up concerning their station.
Some more information about the installation and the Artist Reception is in my previous post.
Stations of the Cross 2010
Please stop by the Xnihilo Gallery (at 2115 Taft Street) when you have some time, to view the installations of The Stations of the Cross. I was selected to produce one of the stations and the entire installation (with each station incorporating some photographic element as part of the citywide FotoFest 2010 Biennial) is a thoughtful meditation of Christ's journey to the cross. The artist reception is on Saturday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m. and I look forward to seeing you there.
Photos Selected in the “Via Colori” Photo Contest
Got some excellent news on Monday morning that two of my photo submissions were in the winning top 24 photographs of the 2009 Via Colori photo contest! The prints of the winning photos will be auctioned off as part of a fundraiser for The Center for Hearing and Speech.
Without further ado, here are my winning entries:
I'll post more details about the auction and the artist reception once they are known.
Cheers!

Ronel’s Homecoming
A couple of posts ago (the one about the Haiti Benefit Concert), I mentioned that my friends Ernest & Debra, after being in the adoption process for two years or so, were trying to get their son home from Haiti. Well, Ernest left for Port-Au-Prince like the next day and after about 9 or so days of sleeping on the floor of the US embassy over there and a lot of tweets asking for prayers and phone calls to members of congress & the State Department, Ronel & Ernest made it back home.
The Parkers are settling in, Ronel is loving playing baseball and apparently his favorite food is chicken. You can get caught up on the happenings in the newly expanded household on Debra's blog.

Erin + Jason: Engagment Portraits
A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of shooting the wedding of my dear friends Erin & Jason. A little bit before then, we hit the town and had some fun doing their engagement portraits. They are a beautiful couple and looking at their photos, you feel like the rest of the world melts away for them when they are together.
One of their first dates was at Brasil & I'd like to say a big thank-you to the manager for letting us take the photos there.
So there was there was this holiday balloon at Discovery Green, taking people up for a bird's eye view of downtown Houston. I don't like heights! Not even from a building that is solidly anchored to the earth. The idea had however popped into my head and I could not stop thinking of what the photos might look like, so I put on a brave smile and we went for it. Here's the deal, this thing is a balloon which means it will move with the wind even if it is on a tether!! Did I mention that I don't like heights? Added to all that "gentle" motion - it was slightly tilted during our ride ... perhaps because of my camera bag
. All of that to say this - it was a lot of fun, I love the photos we got and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
Wedding photos to follow shortly ...
Give Hope for Haiti Benefit Concert
Last week Thursday, I Am Change.Org hosted a benefit concert for Haiti (with proceeds going through Hydrate Hope & the Real Hope for Haiti Rescue Center & Clinic) at Ecclesia + Taft St. Coffee.
[Note: About $7k was raised at this concert and in combination with the concert in The Woodlands the next day, the final tally was over $13k!]
The evening featured music by David Gamboa, Derek Webb, Finnegan, and The Wonderful Future.
Scott Erickson painted live during the event and the pieces were sold via silent auction with the proceeds going to the cause.
The paintings you see on the walls are from Scott's ongoing show "The Saints of LOST".
There was also some photography on sale to the benefit of the Haiti causes, by Debra Parker & Marc Brubaker.
Kudos to the organizers! Please continue to help where you can and keep Haiti in your prayers.
Postscript: My dear friends Ernest & Debra have been in the adoption process and have been trying to get their son home from Haiti for the past couple of years now. As of this morning Ernest is in Port-au-Prince trying to get through the last hurdles to bring their son home. We are praying that this will all happen very, very soon.
Thank You + Living Water + Haiti
Just a quick thank-you note to everyone that helped raise money for Living Water Intl. via the Advent Conspiracy sale. I sent the money to Living Water this week and it seems so timely given the ongoing tragedy in Haiti. Living Water is involved there as are many other charities like the Red Cross. Please consider supporting one them or others directly, if you haven't done so already.
